SINGAPORE: Several Singapore Airlines (SIA) flights between Osaka and Singapore on Wednesday (Aug 28) have been cancelled as a strong typhoon sweeps towards Japan.
In an advisory posted on its website, SIA said four flights to and from Kansai International Airport in Osaka were cancelled due to weather conditions caused by Typhoon Shanshan.
The flights are:
“SIA will be contacting all affected customers to inform them of the flight cancellation,” said the airline.
“Customers may request to be re-accommodated on alternative flights, subject to seat availability, or seek a full refund for the unused portion of their ticket.”
Typhoon Shanshan brought heavy rains to Japan on Tuesday as it moved towards the southern Amami archipelago.
Residents were urged by the Japan Meteorological Agency to “evacuate from dangerous places” as it warned of heavy rains and potential landslides in the central Shizuoka area and high waves hitting the Amami region.
The typhoon, which packed up gusts of up to 216kmh on Tuesday, is expected to veer towards the main southern island of Kyushu later this week.
Japan Airlines cancelled 116 domestic flights on Tuesday and Wednesday, as well as six international flights.
All Nippon Airways cancelled 68 domestic flights from Wednesday to Friday due to the typhoon.
Earlier this month, SIA flights to Tokyo were disrupted due to Typhoon Ampil.
